Ingredients for Beautiful Red Velvet Cake

2 2/3 cups (310g) cake flour

2 tablespoons (16g) unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon (5g) baking soda

1 teaspoon (5g) salt

1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter (room temperature)

1 1/2 cup (300g) sugar

2 eggs

1 cup (220g) vegetable oil

1 teaspoon (5ml) white vinegar

2 teaspoons (10g) vanilla extract

1 cup (240g) buttermilk (room temperature)

2 oz (30g) red food coloring gel

FOR THE FROSTING:

1 ¼ powdered sugar

17 oz. cream cheese

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/3 heavy whipping cream (chilled)

How to Make Beautiful Red Velvet Cake

First, preheat your oven to 350 F. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt in a large bowl and whisk to combine. Mix butter with sugar in a different bowl and beat until well combined. Add in the eggs one at a time, vegetable oil, vinegar, vanilla extract, and buttermilk. Add the flour mixture into the wet ingredients, mix well to combine. Gradually add in the coloring gel and mix until your batter turns red.

Prepare 2 cake pans, grease with butter and dust with flour. Evenly transfer your batter into each pan. Put the pans into your oven and bake for 30 minutes. Remove from the oven once done and allow to cool for about 10 minutes.

For the frosting: Sift the powdered sugar in a bowl. Beat the cream cheese until smooth then add in the vanilla extract and powdered sugar. Whip the cream in another bowl until smooth. Add the cream cheese mixture into the cream and mix until well combined.

To assemble the cake: Cut a thin layer from the top of the cake, set aside the crumbs to use for later. Add a bit less than half of the frosting to the top of the cake and spread evenly. Add the second layer of cake on top and spread the remaining frosting evenly all over. Decorate with the bread crumbs, serve, and enjoy.
