For the sponge
- 400g (13oz) self-raising flour, plus extra for dusting
- 1 1/4 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 250g (8oz) caster sugar
- 115ml (3 3/4oz) sunflower oil

- 3 tbsp golden syrup
