Here is an old fashioned recipe for making popcorn balls using corn syrup and vinegar, it has been a requested recipe from one of our readers so I wanted to find a recipe for her
Here below is a list of the ingredients you will need to make this recipe
4 qts. popcorn
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. vinegar
1 c. light Karo syrup2 tsp. butter
1/2 tsp. baking soda
- Make the popcorn in a popcorn maker or pan with a lid over the heat with a little oil
- Pour the popcorn onto a it onto baking sheets lined with wax paper once made You may need a couple to three baking sheets for this
- Combine the Karo syrup, vinegar, sugar and butter and cream of tartar in a pan over medium heat.
- Heat, stirring occasionally, until it is 235-245 degrees F. It’s best to use a candy thermometer for this.
- You want this mixture to make a soft ball consistency you can find out if it reaches this by place a small amount in a glass of cold water and if you can roll the mixture into a soft ball it is ready
- Remove the mixture from the heat and add the baking soda, dissolved in a tablespoon of hot water.
- Now pour the caramel over your popcorn on the baking sheet work quickly to stiring it before it cools
- Using a small amount of butter on your hands roll the popcorn into balls , you can add sprinkle if you wish at this stage
- Now you have popcorn balls
