- 85g (3 1/4oz) butter, softened
- 70g (3oz) soft brown sugar
- 185g (6 1/4oz) caster sugar
- 1 egg white
- 1 tsp vanilla essence, or extract
- 150g (5oz) plain flour
- 60g (2 1/2oz) cocoa powder
- 4 pinches black pepper
- 4 pinches cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 1 tsp ajwain seeds (optional)
