The Classic Apple Pie Recipe.. Love A Good Pie

A king of pies is the classic apple pie that is easy to make and will put a smile on your family or friends when you bake one in your own kitchen .. follow the ingredients and the recipe below to make your very own apple pie .. happy baking

 

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup caster sugar (superfine )
  • 2 tbsp plain ( all purpose) flour
  • 1 /2 tsp ground cinnamon
  •  800g / 12oz bramley apples.. peeled & cored and cut into chunks
  • I egg.. beaten

 

For the pastry:

  • 2 cups plain ( all purpose) flour
  • 2/3 cup butter .. chilled

  1. To make the pastry .. into a bowl sieve the flour and then using a grater, grate in the butter
  2. Pour some cold water into a jug and then pour a little at a time onto the flour and butter in the bowl, mixing it into a pliable dough then wrap it in plastic wrap( cling film ) and place it in the fridge to chill for 30 mins
  3. Now preheat your oven to 190 °C / 375°F / gas 5
  4. Butter a 23 cm round pie dish
  5. For The Filling ..mix together the sugar and cinnamon in a bowl then place in your apples and toss them in the sugar mixture until coated
  6. Take out your pastry from the fridge and cut in half , roll out one half big enough to cover the pie dish on the bottom and up the sides
  7. Place your apple mixture in side the pastry case and brush around the edge of the pastry with a beaten egg
  8. Roll out your second half of the pastry big enough to layer over the top of the apples and then press down around the outside of the pastry sealing both the two edges of the pastry  together to seal them
  9. Cut of any access pastry around the edge with a knife to give a clean edge and the crimp the edges all around the pie with your fingers and thumbs
  10. Slit two small holes in the top in the middle of the pie lid so that the steam can escape whilst cooking , brush the top of the pie with beaten egg for a glaze
  11. Bake the pie for about 35-45 mins until a golden brown the edges of the pastry should shrink away from the edge of the pie dish

 

Your pie is now ready to serve either warm or cold .. Yummy

Top Tips 

Your could make a apple and sultana pie just by just adding 100 g sultanas and the zest of a lemon  to the original recipe , or alternately you could make a pear and cinnamon pie by using pears instead of apples and adding  1 tsp extra of cinnamon.. some great alternative to a wonderful fruit pie
