National Bavarian Cream Pie Day
The National Bavarian Cream Pie Day is celebrated on November 27. It is a perfect excuse to indulge yourself with a slice of delicious pie with light cream.
Bavarian cream, also known as Crème bavaroise or Bavarois, is a dessert made with custard thickened with gelatin and sometimes flavored with liqueur. It is a classic dessert which first appeared in American cookbooks in the late 19th century. Bavarian cream can be served as a standalone dessert or substitute for pastry cream as a filling.
Bavarian cream pie is a delicious treat that doesn’t even need baking if you use a ready made pie crust or no-bake cookie pie crust. You can easily cook it following our instructions. Mix 1 1/2 cups crushed chocolate wafer cookies and 1/2 cup melted butter. Pat into cake pan and chill.
Soften 1 tbs gelatin in 1/4 cup cold water and set aside. In top of bain-marie combine 3 slightly beaten egg yolks, 1 cup scalded milk, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1/4 tsp salt. Add custard to gelatin mixture and let it cool. Gently fold 3 stiffly beaten egg whites, 1 cup whipped cream, and some vanilla into custard-gelatine mixture. Pour into crust and chill the pie for a few hours.
If you don’t feel like cooking, you can celebrate the National Bavarian Cream Pie Day by picking some pie from your local bakery
