Hi Fellow Bakers
School Dinner Memories.. Treacle Tart
The other day I was thinking about the wonderful pudding we had a school and I remember the treacle tart and butterscotch tart mainly because they were my favourite with custard or that creamy topping they piped onto it ..
So I had to look for a recipe for both of them so that I could bring back those amazing memories of these wonderful tart recipes
I really love this recipe so I wanted to pass it onto you fellow bakers to see what you think and hopefully you will love to make it too for your family or friends
Treacle Tart
Ingredients
For the filling :
- 1 cup golden syrup
- 2 lemons, zest & juice
- 1 1/3 cups brown breadcrumbs
For the pastry:
- 1/2 cup butter, that is cubed and is chilled
- 1 1/3 cups wholemeal flour
Powered sugar for decoration
- Preheat your oven to 200 °C / 400°F /gas 6
- Your are now going to make the pastry… Rub the butter into the flour in a bowl until it resembles fine bread crumbs
- Place from cold water into a jug and pour slowly some of the water into bread crumbs you have made with the flour and butter until the pastry comes together in a ball the dough should be pliable and not to wet , now chill it in the fridge for about 30 mins
- For The Filling ..Heat you golden syrup in a pan on the stove on a low heat along with the lemon zest and the juice until it is a runny consistence
- Now take it off the heat and stir in your bread crumbs
- Take your pastry out of the fridge where it has been chilling and then roll it out on a floured surface until it is big enough to fit a 23cm round tart case
- Spoon on your bread crumb filling onto the pastry case and level it off with the back of a spoon
- Bake in the oven for 25-30 mins or until the the pastry is bake through at the bottom of the tart , so that the pastry is not under-cook underneath
- Cool slightly then dust with the powered sugar using a sieve to decorate
- serve warm with cream or custard Yummy !
Top Tip
For An Alternative you could spice up your tart why not add 100 g of ginger cake crumbs to the filling and add a 1 tsp ground ginger to the pastry and it is a winter warmer with some fresh cream .. How Delicious !
Do feel free to pass on the amazing recipe to others
